If your organization doesn’t think leveraging social media to strengthen its brand is important, you need to have a talk, à la Cher, with Marketing. But for those businesses that have gotten their feet wet in the sea of likes, tweets, follows, and pokes, there are some great Social Media Enhancement tools available that will give your social networking strategy a boost.
Founded by Martin-Luc Archambault, Wajam is making waves in the startup world as a leading social media search engine. It’s free to download as an extension for your browser and integrates smoothly with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn. Users simply search in their browser as they normally would but in addition to the usual web results they receive, Wajam also generates relevant results based on what social networking friends have shared.
Archambault, who won the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, has been continuously improving Wajam and adding features, such as integration with Google Maps, Safari, and shopping sites like Amazon or Ebay.
For businesses, the value Wajam offers is obvious. Having a neatly aggregated list of search results from multiple social media platforms saves time and makes it easier to view relevant content that followers are sharing. It’s like having a no-cost market research team on staff.
- Sort your followers/following lists by a range of criteria
- Efficiently search for new people to follow
- Unfollow thousands of accounts within seconds that don’t meet certain criteria (no profile picture, inactivity…)
- Find out when most of your followers are online
- Set schedules for your tweets
- Track who unfollowed you
- Manage multiple Twitter accounts
All of these functionalities are handy, but the best one in my opinion is the PowerPost feature. It tells you when your followers in a chosen location are most active and allows you to set tweet schedules based on that information. PowerPost Analytics also help you track the popularity of your tweets.
ManageFlitter offers basic services at no cost, but PowerPost is only available for Pro (from $12/month) and Business (from $49/month) accounts. It’s used by nearly 2 million individuals and businesses including PayPal, GE, Richard Branson, and the Hoff himself.
Based in the Czech Republic, Socialbakers describes its platform as “the only analytics platform that provides global industry benchmarking and local categorization in social media.” Businesses have been forced to use arbitrary metrics in order to measure the success rate of their latest social networking campaigns, or have had to gather data on competitors one by one – a painstakingly long process. Using the industry and competitive analyses generated by the Socialbakers platform, users have a clear understanding of their social media efforts in relation to those of their competitors.
Other tools from Socialbakers include: a single interface for posting across multiple social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+; automated postings; and Ad Analytics, a Facebook advertisement optimizing tool. With over 20% of the Global Fortune 500 using Socialbakers, it’s no surprise that it doesn’t come cheap. A free 14-day trial is available, but to monitor three different social media accounts (one Facebook page, one Twitter page, and one YouTube page for example), the monthly fee is $100 – and that’s just for the Analytics tool.
